My Walk with God March 9, 2013

Goal for now 500

I did it, 200 miles who would have thought, but I have done it. When I started last summer I set a goal of 100 miles and thought this was huge but I reached it and knew next goal must be a much larger goal and so 500 miles is the goal and now 50 miles short of being half way (of my 500 miles) to this bigger than what I would have thought possible, it seems almost possible.

I can feel nature is ready to spring forth from under all the dead leaves and snow. The last snow most likely for the season is almost gone and the drab look of the woods is just adding to hunger for the rush of the wildflowers to burst forth and show their wonder before the trees put the woodland floor in to the shade of the summer. There was even a large group of Sandhill Crane flying overhead as I walked. You can’t miss there unusual call as they migrate north. They usually never land around here but there is a park north west of here that they rest every year on their flight north and south.

Reaching the mile marker of 200 I hope is what I needed to get back to my Appalachian walk. There are several real hikers of the AP trail preparing to leave for Georgia and there real walk. I love following them. I know this adventure is not even close to what these people will experience but the dreaming of such an adventure and also remembering what brought me to this 200 mile marker drives me to keep on.
For anyone who doesn’t know how this started, the short answer is from reading a book of a newly widow husband who even though he loved God he was overcome with anger at God for taking his wife and as one of her last request she ask him to complete a lifelong desire to walk the Appalachian Trail. He decide he would do as his wife requested but only if he felt God was with him and he could bring his pain before God and He travel with him and show him what direction to follow. This was a free book I had downloaded on my Kendal and I could feel the adrenalin working overtime. I realized of course there was no way I would have the opportunity to do this and thought I was done with the thought. Then a walk by our tread mill ignited a spark. What if I could section hike such a distance as 1134 miles and let my imagination, which often works overtime, share just a bit of this Walk With God journey. Yep sounds just down right ridiculous but whatever it was I walk 1 mile on treadmill, the next day 2 miles and then a decision was made I could not do this just walking indoors. The feel the trill of Gods nature and the effects of his weather I need to take this outside, so I did. Here I am now 200 miles later. At times I have compared my distance to where I would be on the trail if I were hiking it and will get back to that soon. So now I have set a goal of 100 miles by end of June. This would complete more than half of the 500 miles. So get these feet a walk-in.

Nunc coepi   “Now I begin.”

Take a course in good water and air; and in the eternal youth of Nature you may renew your own. Go quietly, alone; no harm will befall you.
